VEGAS UP NEXT FOR NASCAR K&N WEST ROOKIE DYLAN HUTCHISON
SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA (May 30, 2012) – 17 year-old NASCAR K&N Pro
Series, West rookie Dylan Hutchison, fresh off his first career
series top-ten, will look to continue the momentum as he heads into
the Las Vegas Bullring for Saturday's "Star Nursery 200". Hutchison
drives the #5 Bay Bio Diesel Chevrolet for Jack Sellers Racing and
is third in the Sunoco Rookie of the Year points for the 2012
Las Vegas will wrap up a stretch of three consecutive weeks of K&N
West racing which started with Iowa Speedway on May 19. Hutchison
unfortunately failed to qualify for Iowa Speedway and is hoping to
use Vegas a catch-up race in the competitive Rookie of the Year
Hutchison had a career-best ninth place finish at the tricky
Brainerd International Raceway road course in Minnesota on Saturday
afternoon. After participating in Friday's track practice day, rain
delayed Saturday's practices by nearly four hours. Hutchison was
13th quickest in the 30 minute session and lined up 14th for the 50
lap, 125 mile race after qualifying was rained out as well.
The John Krebs-led crew on the Johnnie Walker Performance-sponsored
car used pit stop strategy to crack the top-five by the halfway
point of the race. With eventual race winner Michael Self running
behind him, Hutchison elected to let Self go and continue on with
the race in the fifth position.
Hutchison held onto the fifth spot through lap 30 in the 50 lap
contest but slowly fell to a ninth place finish at the checkered
flag in a solid performance.
"Brainerd went really good and the car handled great," Hutchison
said. "Our pit stop strategy was a little bit of a gamble but it
paid off. I'm getting the hang of shifting without the clutch and I
can't wait for the next road course at Sonoma in a few weeks!"
With the Las Vegas up next through Hutchison's windshield, he will
return to a 3/8ths mile bullring that is one of his favorite race
tracks. Hutchison competed at Las Vegas in 2008 and 2009 in the
Scaled Late Models and set a track record that stands to this day.
The 2011 All American Speedway NASCAR Late Model Rookie of the Year
is eager to return to his short track roots.
"I'm really excited for Las Vegas and it has always been my favorite
track to race at," Hutchison said. "I like it because it's a high
speed short track that makes for really good racing. We've been
really good at the short tracks so far and I hope to come out with
On Saturday, practices will be held at noon and 1:45 p.m., with
qualifying scheduled for 5 p.m. The "Star Nursery 200" is scheduled
to go green at 8:30 p.m.
